Whitton started dancing at the tender age of eight, when she was enrolled in a ballet class. As the years progressed so did her love
of dance. Whitton is
originally from breezy San Francisco, but learned to blues dance at college in Pittsburgh, PA. It has been her goal to bring a little bit
of the Pittsburgh Dirty Blues to California. She has DJed various events in Pittsburgh including End of the Month Blues and Saturday
Late Night Blues. She loves both classical and contemprary
blues music and artists and tries to reflect that when she DJs. Whitton teaches a weekly blues class with Tim on Monday Nights. Look for Blues Kitchen on Facebook!

Shawn Coyle
Los Angeles
 |
Shawn got his start deejaying at the largest, weekly dance in Pittsburgh when the house deejay left town, back in 1999. He soon become a favorite among the locals & spun for other dance events. Upon leaving Pittsburgh, he was a regular at Swing City, the Edgewood Club, Groove Juice, Chicken Swing, EoM (End of Month) Blues, & Late-Nite Blues. Shawn also deejayed for national events hosted in his home town: PittStop Lindy Hop and Pittsburgh Blues n'at Jazz (PBnJ). Most of these, he either ran or was helping organize. Oh yeah, he's the guy that brings LA other blues events from Hep to the Jive such as The Juke & Cruisin' for a Bluesin'. As for Shawn's style, you can expect him to seldom stray from the genre at hand; he plays a wide variety of songs within the style, with an unconventional song or two adding some spice to his set. He is continually pruning and adding new material to his library, challenging himself to keep his sets fresh and exciting from a massive collection! |

James Woo
Los Angeles
|
A long-time ballroom dancer, James’ love for jazz and blues music goes back to his college days. However, there was little offering for blues dancing until the past few years. His DJ history goes back to “spinning vinyl” during the Disco era, and he is current DJ for the USA Dance-L.A. Chapter ballroom dances. James can be seen at a wide range of dance venues throughout L.A. and Orange counties.

Erin Ho
Torrance

|
Erin grew up in a small town in Missouri and made her way to CA in 2002. Through the constant persistance from a close friend to go out more, she was introduced to swing dancing at LindyGroove in 2004 and immediately became extremely addicted. She has since attended lindy exchanges in San Francisco, Las Vegas, Denver, and New York. But you will usually find her in the blues room. Her first experiences as a DJ were through random house parties which lead to her official debut at DSB. She has a passion for great music, great friends & great dancing!

Chris Gauntt
Los Angeles

|
Christopher "DJ Saebel" Gauntt, has been dancing swing/blues for 10 years, as well as a bit of various styles: tango, waltz, salsa, etc. He got into DJ-ing by accident for a Holloween party about 4 years ago. The response was so overwhelming, he got sucked into the scene. If you have a specific favorite song you'd like him to consider playing at our event, e-mail him the song title/album/artist to chris@cdghome.com, and he'll see what he can do.

Barry Chin
Los Angeles

|
Barry says he entered the blues world through a back door. After suffering injuries including a torn ACL & ruptured achilles tendon which forced him to stop playing volleyball 4-5 times a week, he pursued ballroom, salsa, west coast swing and argentine tango - but oddly enough, not much swing and no lindyhop. As such, he's not quite sure exactly what led to his discovering blues dancing, but he's glad that he did! His musical background (performance, conducting & arranging) drew him into DJ-ing trying to tailor the perfect set that reflects a diversity of tempos, voicings & instrumentation while staying faithful to the blues genre and keeping people dancing on the floor.

Interested in DJing?
If you are interested in DJing, we ask that you create a CD with these things in mind:
1.) All songs must be Blues (songs you would find in the blues section at a music store.)
2.) You must use good quality tracks/recordings
3.) No song should exceeds 4 minutes 30 seconds
Then, label the CD with:
1.) Your name
2.) Email
3.) Phone number
4.) A copy of the playlist.
Please drop off all submissions at the front desk of the dance.
If we like the CD you will have the opportunity to DJ a short set, after which you will be critiqued. Depending on the results, you might get a longer set at a later date or asked to create another CD for review.
